A debate on the worsening security situation in the country led to fireworks in the Senate on Wednesday. The session became rowdy following a call by the Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over his inability to safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians since 2015. The Senators were however divided on the necessity of adopting a state police model in the country. However, they were unanimous on the urgent needs for the President to sack the present Service Chiefs. Facebook user Eunice Ogbonna who penned down a tribute to her sister and mother of 6 identified as Mercy Chichi, revealed that she built a house and also bought a car for her husband Kalu Ilum before her death. She also revealed that Mercy Chichi disclosed that she was tired of her marriage to her abusive husband but chose to stay because of her children. Kalu reportedly jumped into a well to escape mob action after shooting his wife while she was preparing their children for school around 7a.m today. However after he got out, he was beaten to death and set ablaze by the mob that also destroyed his house. Prof Francis Otunta, the Vice Chancellor of  Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike , (MOUAU), in  Abia State , has been accused of putting a female student in a family way and flying her abroad to conceal his act. The allegation was revealed in a petition written by a  member  of the University’s Governing Council, Dr Nelson O’Amanze Udenze. In the petition, Prof Francis Otunta is accused of impregnating a third-year female student of accounting in 2017. He then upgraded the student to final year status without any examination in order to cover up and make her graduate a year ahead. When the said student graduated, the vice-chancellor allegedly sent her abroad in a bid to conceal the scandal. Aside from the sexual misconduct allegation, Prof Otunta has also been accused of abuse of office and embezzling money meant for some staff of the university who he allegedly suspended.
