Facebook and its posse of social networking apps will now be banned in Germany, making a huge dent in its popularity.

Facebook’s Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp will soon be banished from the markets of Germany concerning a legal matter.

Why will Facebook and its other apps be banned in Germany? What is this legal matter? Find out right here!

Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp To Be Banned In Germany

BlackBerry has lodged a case against Facebook for infringement of its patent, and the court decided to go with the former. As per BlackBerry, the functions of Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp were encroaching those of BlackBerry patents.

Facebook’s loss in this patent infringement case to Blackberry is the primary reason behind the banning of Facebook’s three most popular apps – Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp as well.

A spokesperson has revealed, “By the judgments, the offer and delivery of the aforementioned applications in the FRG are prohibited as far as they use the patent patents.”

Facebook has always come across problems while functioning in Germany, and the number of users of Facebook in Germany is dwindling rapidly. In addition to that, Germany’s cartel office Bundeskartellamt had also objected to Facebook’s ways of processing data and had also imposed restrictions. Facebook was banned from forcing its users to comply with unrestricted data collection and assigning of data non-related to Facebook to their Facebook accounts.

Germany’s justice minister, Katarina Barley said, “Users are often unaware of this flow of data and cannot prevent it if they want to use the services. We need to be rigorous in tackling the abuse of power that comes with data.”

Facebook Finds Alternative: Make Amends And Rebuild The Existing Products

Facebook is looking to find a way around this predicament by rebuilding the apps and finding out a way so that they can function in Germany.

“We plan to adapt our products accordingly so that we can continue to offer them in Germany,” Facebook was quoted as saying.

Facebook has declared its intention to appeal to the conclusions of Bundeskartellamt. Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg also defended his brainchild by stating that popularity is not dominance.

Facebook was also successful in blocking Germany FCO’s order against combining user data. This was said to be a huge achievement by Facebook against regulators.
