Jealousy as we all know it is a destructive emotion: it has the potential to suffocate a happy partnership and break down the trust in the worst possible way and this Indian -origin man showed just how bad things can get with this obsessive behaviour.
In a shocking incident, an abusive Indian man stabbed his wife to death in New York City all because she had a crush on Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan.
According to reports, 33-year-old Dineshwar Budhidat, stabbed his bartender wife, Donne Dojoy, 27, to death on Friday and then hanged himself from a tree later.
Dineshwar Budhidat was known to be abusive and controlling, so much so that his wife had a restraining order against him when the murder occurred.
Reports state that the deaths come just two days after Budhidat pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in court on Wednesday in relation to an incident in August.
After the brutal murder, the woman's friends claimed that he had raged over Dojoy's infatuation with Indian actor Hrithik Roshan in the past.
Another of Dojoy's friends said that despite the jealousy and the abuse, 'he was obsessed with her, because of the type of job she did, and she had a good body.'
Gemini's Ultra Lounge karaoke singer Mala Ramdhani told NY Post that Dojoy had told her before that whenever she was at home and watching a movie starring Roshan or listening to his songs, Budhidat "would ask her to take it off because he would get so jealous".
The New York Daily News reported that Budhidat slapped and strangled Dojoy in August inside their Queens apartment. He was arrested on August 21 for the incident and Dojoy had a protection order against Budhidat since then. He was due to be sentenced in January.
Officials are looking into the man's involvement in the woman's death.
Sources say that the two had an ongoing domestic violence history with the suspect getting arrested last summer for assault.
The couple got married in July but quickly developed issues.
'Every relationship has problems,' said Toolaram. 'I just didn’t think the problems would be big enough to result in such violence.'
'Every time you see a situation like this, the family members always say we never saw it coming, and I have the same answer. He’s the coolest, calmest funniest guy.'
