At least a passenger has lost his life while 19 passengers have been rescued in a boat mishap that occurred around Ebute-ojo terminal in Lagos on Monday.

It was learnt that the tragic incident occurred around 7:30pm when a fully loaded 20-capacity passengers boat going from Liverpool jetty to Ebute-ojo terminal capsized due to strong waves.

New Telegraph learnt that local community members rescued 19 passengers with one of them in critical condition who was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead while the others were reunited with their families.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr Damilola Emannuel, said that the Marine Police have since arrested the captain of the boat and ongoing investigations are being carried out by LASWA and other relevant emergency agencies.
