Nigerian private universities are becoming quite popular and it is a known fact that most of these schools are owned by churches. 

A number of Nigerian churches have their own school and while it is a fact that they have high standards in these schools, the fees can be somewhat pricey and expensive for the average Nigerians.

Most private universities charge as much as a a few hundred thousand in fees per semester and the minimum wage in Nigeria is around a proposed N30,000. 

Some people have argued that most church members of these Church owned universities are so expensive that most of the members of these churches can barely afford it. Here's a list of top Nigerian universities owned by churches. 

1. Bowen Univerity (Osun State)

Bowen University is another top private university which is owned by the Nigerian Baptist Convention. 

Bowen University is located at Iwo in Osun State, Nigeria, and is housed in the old 1,300-acre campus of the Baptist College, a teacher-training institution on a hill just outside the city. 

The university was established in 2002 and the fees range from N500,000 to N1,750,000. 

2. Reedemer's University (Osun State)

Another top Nigeria private University is the Redeemer's University.This is a private university located in Ede, Osun, off Gbongan-Oshogbo Road, Osun State, Nigeria. Established in 2005, the university is owned by the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

Their fees range from N500,000 to N800,000. 

3. Covenant University (Ogun State)

Another notable private University and oftentimes rated one of the best is Covenant University.

This University is located in Ota, Ogun State in Nigeria. It is a private Christian university, affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Association of African Universities and National Universities Commission.

It is owned by Bishop David Oyedepo and the fees range from N817,500 to N900,000 according to information available on the school's website.

4. Madonna University

Madonna University is one of the best universities in Nigeria with the principal objective to remain in the front-line of learning, teaching and research.

It is a private Catholic owned University, which is located in Okija and established in 1999 by Father Edeh.

The fees range from N200,000 to N900,000. 

5. Ajayi Crowther University

Ajayi Crowther University also known as ACU is a private university located in Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria. 

It was established in 2005 and is owned by the Supra Diocesan Board (West) of the Church of Nigeria's Anglican Communion. 

6. Mountain Top University (Ogun State)

Mountain Top University is a private university in Makogi Oba, Ogun State, Nigeria, which was founded in 2015. 

It was founded by Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, a Pentecostal Christian denomination. The university was founded by Dr. D.K. Olukoya, the founder and General Overseer of MFM Ministries worldwide. 

Their fees range from N500,000 to N600,000. 

7. Babcock University (Ogun State)

Babcock University is a private Christian co-educational Nigerian university which was established by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Nigeria. 

The university is located at Ilishan-Remo equidistant between Ibadan and Lagos is another top choice private university in Nigeria today.

The fees range from N600,000 to N900,000. 

8. Landmark University

Another private University on this list owned by the same church is Landmark University.

It is a Private Christian University, affiliated with Living Faith Church Worldwide and located in Omu-Aran Kwara State, Nigeria. In 2014 it is featured among the top five universities in Nigeria by Webometrics. 

It is owned by Bishop David Oyedepo and the fees range from N600,000 to N700,000. 

9. Joseph Ayo Babalola University

The Joseph Ayo Babalola University is a private Nigerian university located in Ikeji-Arakeji in Osun State, established by the Christ Apostolic Church Worldwide.

It is named after its late founder and it is another notable private university.

Its fees range from N200,000 to N800,000.

10. Crawford University

The last but not the least on this list is Crawford University. This is a private Christian university in Igbesa, Ogun state in Nigeria, owned by the Apostolic Faith Mission. 

Established in 2005 by Paul Akazue, the then leader and third Overseer for the Apostolic Faith Mission in Nigeria and Africa.

Their fees range from N400,000 through N600,000.
