Deontay Wilder nearly lost his heavyweight title to veteran Luis Ortiz last March, and in Saturday night's rematch, he wasn't exactly wowing anyone during the first half of the fight.
But in Round 7, Wilder showed that all he needs is one opening to close the show, delivering a straight right to Ortiz's forehead that knocked him on his back and ended the bout in Las Vegas.
Wilder made his 10th consecutive successful defense of his WBC heavyweight title, improving to 42-0-1 with 41 KOs, which had the world of sports and entertainment singing his praises on Twitter.
Good finish from Wilder, good fight from Ortiz until that last punch landed. I hope Ortiz is ok. That being said, it’s time for the rematch !
Ortiz was winning on the cards but he was not dominating bro. Wilder is getting better and he also got a shotgun right hand . Give that man his respect !
I don’t work with the dude anymore, but the “Wilder has no talent” narrative is trash. The ability to destroy an “A” level opponent, with a single punch, at any SECOND of a fight, is a singular, awesome TALENT. Give @BronzeBomber the credit he deserves. He is a scary man. #boxing
Like Teofilo Stevenson and Ingemar Johansson the M. O. Is same; blind him with jab then sleep with right. #WilderOrtiz2 #wildervsortiz2
Waiting for that one ! All it takes is one punch, and Wilder has proven that yet again tonight vs. Ortiz. #WilderOrtiz2 #BombZquad
Wilder you are one scary human being
Between Charlotte football being bowl-eligible and the Wilder fight, today was huge for me
Heavyweights let wilder be
Wilder has thunder in that right hand! Wow
Wilder is a freak of nature!!!! #WilderOrtiz2
Wilder got that insane power!! The real question though....Just how tough does that make the Gypsy King???
Let's get the rematch! #WilderFury2 #WilderOrtiz2
