Christians from all walks of life on Saturday braved rain as six priests and one deacon were being ordained to join the catholic priesthood in Lango sub region. Despite the heavy downpour, Christians sang and danced as they welcomed the new priests to the house of the Lord. The annual ordination service was led by Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok of Lira Diocese. Oluwatosin Omojuyigbe The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Monday, arraigned a pastor of the Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel), Afolabi Samuel, for allegedly stealing $90,000 and N4.5m belonging to the registered trustees of the church. Samuel, who is an accountant and the church’s treasurer, was arraigned before the Lagos State Special Offences Court on two counts of conspiracy and stealing. It was gathered that the pastor and one Blessing Kolawole, an employee of the Covenant University, who is currently at large, conspired and dishonestly stole the money and converted the same to their personal uses. In the petition to the EFCC dated June 26, 2019, and signed by Chioma Okwuanyi and Co, legal practitioners, Samuel, who was employed in the account department of the church to maintain proper records of funds, allegedly connived with Kolawole and others to take advantage of their position as the church’s treasurer and worker at the university, respectively. The former Governor of Nigeria’s Plateau State, Senator Joshua Dariye, was on June 12, 2018 sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for embezzling over 600 million Naira (926.4 million FCFA), Thisday newspaper reported. His conviction came less than a month after the imprisonment of Jolly Nyame, former Governor of Taraba State. He was also jailed for 14 years by the same Federal Capital City High Court, Abuja that put Dariye behind bars. Justice Adebukola Banjoko found Dariye guilty of 15 of the 23-count charge. He was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for diverting ecological funds meant for Plateau State.  

A police officer identified as Paul Joseph attached to the Access Bank branch at Ahiara Junction in Ahiazu Mbaise local government area of Imo State has reportedly committed suicide. It was gathered that Joseph was due to be promoted to the rank of inspector, but unfortunately shot himself on Wednesday over frustrations of life. According to sources in the bank, the incident happened around 7.00 am when the bank staff was resuming work, only for them to hear a gunshot from their security house at the gate. After investigating, they discovered that the policeman had killed himself while his mate was out to the junction buying food. Okpara, a resident of No. 10 Abiodun Kayode St., Araromi Bus Stop, Ojo in Lagos was arraigned on a four-count-charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful abduction and child trafficking. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde alleged that the defendant stole the four-month-old baby, Princess Oluchi, daughter of one Mrs Blessing Okon. Ayorinde told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large on Nov. 5 at No. 5 Kayode St., Ajangbadi in Lagos. The prosecutor submitted that the defendant fraudulently took away the baby from her mother. “All efforts made to locate the baby proved abortive,” He said. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, admitted the defendant to a bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum. A 69-year-old lecturer who demanded sex in exchange for marks has been handed a 3 year jail sentence in a court judgement passed at Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The court heard how Samson Mahimbo was caught naked in a lodging facility while preparing to engage in sexual intercourse with his student on January 11, 2017. The student he wanted to have sex with was a second-year student at the National Institute of Transport (NIT) in Dar es Salaam. She reportedly failed her main exam in transport administrations and was scheduled to re-sit the paper on January 5, 2017. Mahimbo was accused of abusing his powers by soliciting sex from his student in exchange for good marks in the course she failed. “When they met, the learner was given the supplementary exam, which she sat for. Police in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, said they suspected her of stealing money from bank users after illegally obtaining their ATM cards,  k24TV  has reported.
