Nigeria is a very religious country and it is no news that we have three pre-dominant religions including Christian, Islam and traditional worship.
Nigeria has come a long way to become one of the Countries with the highest number of churches in the world and it is no surprise that while there are men of God who have been working hard to preach the gospel and spread the word of God to every corner, some men of God have been a complete disgrace to the body of Christ by perpertrating heinous crimes including murder and the likes.
We present to you a list of 'Men of God' who have been arrested for allegedly killing people which have made the news recently.
Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, popularly known by his sobriquet Reverend King, is a Christian preacher from Anambra State, South-east Nigeria.
In 2006, he rose to nationwide recognition following the murder of a church member, Ann Uzoh.
He is still in prison.
Oluwatobiloba Ipense is another Nigerian Pastor who doubles as a teacher and was accused of killing his "secret lover" and burying her in his unfinished church.
The Nigeria Police revealed that the perpetrator decapitated his victim, Rialat Sanni, and chopped off her hands before burying her slaughtered body inside of the uncompleted church building.
It was further revealed that the victim Sanni, a divorcee with five children, was Ipense's secret lover.
Another Nigerian Pastor who has been accused of murder is Udoka Ukachukwu who killed an engineer working with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Benin, Edo State.
Pastor Udoka Ukachukwu and his mistress Eniobong Isonguyo, a mother of three, were sentenced to death by a court for the murder of her husband, Engr. Victor Gabriel Isonguyo- a staff of NNPC, Benin.
According to investigations and facts before the court, Eniobong, in connivance with her pastor, Udoka Ukachukwu conspired to commit the act.
A Pastor identified as Chukwuemeka Ezeh was arrested by the Enugu State Police command for killing his girlfriend, Miss Ogechukwu Ogbodo at her apartment located at Railway axis of Enugu metropolis.
The General Overseer of Royal Prince Prophetic Ministry whose girlfriend is a recharge card sales agent until her death, began fighting with her after she refused to buy him a tricycle.
He was reportedly on a visit on July 15, 2019, when he discovered that his girlfriend of five years came home with N2m which she intended to deposit in the bank the next day. Upon making the discovery, Pastor Ezeh killed his girlfriend, ransacked her house and took the money and title documents to her landed property.
The New Generation Church Pastor subsequently used the money to procure musical instruments and carried out a total renovation of his church. When interrogated by the police, the murder suspect said he killed her for refusing to buy him a tricycle even though she has been buying tricycles for people in the community on hire purchase.
Another Pastor based in Igboora, in Ibarapa geo-political zone of Oyo State, Dotun Ogunlade allegedly killed a 25-year-old house wife, Bosede Oguntade who was lured to the 'Man of God' in Igboora, Oyo State with a view to finding a solution to her economic and marital problems by the ‘pastor’ who is also known as ‘Arole Jesu’.
On the arrival of the woman in Igboora, the fake prophet told her to first solve the problem of fatigue occasioned by the stress of her trip from Ilorin to Igboora by taking sleeping drugs. The suspect then injected her with overdose sleeping drug and subsequently over powered, strangulated and killed her.
It was further revealed that her head and arms were thereafter taken for rituals while the remains of her corpse were buried in a shallow grave, at Ogboja Area of Igbo-Ora.
This is another shocking one as one Evangelist Prosper Peters Okwandu allegedly murdered another 'Man of God', Apostle Blessed Kelechukwu Iwuanyanwu, the founder of “Wind Of Glory International, and two others in Abia state.
The pastor was allegedly killed by his childhood friend, an Evangelist, known as Prosper Peters Okwandu, (pictured on black and white polo) and other accomplices.
Properties belonging to the late Pastor including his car, phones and clothes were recovered from the killers.
7. Pastor Jonathan Ojigbo
The Presiding Minister of God Solution Ministry, Ozoro in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, Jonathan Ojigbo was arrested for the concoction he allegedly prepared from the shrine behind his church which led to the untimely death of one Evi Samson, a member of his church.
The Cleric, prepared a black concoction for Samson to drink. Samson later developed stomach ache, which eventually led to a swollen head and eyes before his death at night of the same day.
Pastor of Voice of Canaan Church, Cherubim and Seraphim, Azuri-Okene, in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, Otaru Olusegun, was arrested for allegedly killing one commercial sex worker for ritual.
The 'Man of God' claimed poverty led him into committing the crime as he killed Mercy Moses, a sex worker at Hollywood Hotel in Azuri community with the hope of raising N2.5 million from the ritual before he was arrested.
Pastor Adedoyin Oyekan is another 'Man of God' who was arrested for allegedly beheading a 7-year old boy and burying his head at the church’s altar.
It was revealed that policemen arrested one Eric, whose confession led to the arrest of the pastor and the recovery of the boy’s body. Eric, who was said to be a friend to the victim’s father, allegedly stole the boy after his father left him in his care. It was gathered the suspect was said to have taken the boy to the pastor’s church where they beheaded and buried him between in the middle of the night.
10. Pastor Elijah
Pastor Elijah was arrested around the Liseri Community in Ode Irele for the alleged murder of a 60-year-old woman reportedly used for ritual purposes.
Mrs Ajisomo Lawson was said to have been invited from her village by the pastor in the area for a spiritual programme. It was revealed that after the programme was called off, the said pastor arranged for a motorcycle to take the woman back to her village at Liseri. The woman didn't make it back to her village and this caused people to search for her.
They later found her lifeless body in a bush at the Irele oil palm plantation on Irele-Ore Road. Some vital parts of her body, including her private part and eyeballs were said to have been removed.
