Popular gospel musician and Pastor, Nathaniel Bassey, has gone to his Instagram page to vent about the poor treatment that Nigerians working at the embassy mete out to their fellow Nigerians, all because they are searching for visa. He claimed that he had experienced it before and accused them of being rude and arrogant to the people looking for visa at the embassy.
He specifically called out the workers in VFS (Visa Facilitation Services Global) which is a company that deals with the issuance of visa and passports worldwide. In his video he accuses them of treating the visa process as if they were issuing the visa to heaven. He said it was very sad that those workers were Nigerians and would be the same people to call out the Government when it fails to do its duties, when they themselves were as corrupt as the Government. He also went ahead to say that they were highly insultive even though they were charging a lot of money for the services that they provided.
Pastor Nathaniel Bassey also called out to the leaders of the organization to try and do something about its poorly organized bad behaved workers. This kind of complains are not news, as it is very common. The high handedness used to treat Nigerians looking to travel to other countries is very bad, some even resort to seeking for bribes before doing their basic duties.
Traveling abroad, is already expensive and it is painful that although people are already spending a lot of money they still have to go through stress, insults and dehumanization during the process of getting a visa that they might be later denied.
Sometimes they even ignore people which results in minor quarrels, the customer service right from the gate, through their business center before getting to the main office is nothing to write home about. Passports that have been submitted for a long time, most times get ignored, thereby wasting people's precious time.
Some individuals on his page expressed the need for the VFS process to be scrapped as they felt it was better to go straight to the embassy, some did not agree as they felt that the embassy was even worse as they had gun toting soldiers who claimed to be guarding the embassy but were actually doing the reverse.
The government has a long way to go in protecting the interest of its citizens, and making sure that their human rights are not trampled upon. Also Nigeria has to become a place that adequately ensures that its citizens are well taken care of in the society, Jobs need to be provided, and the general quality of life has to be upgraded, our Government needs to also look into security, as so many threats coming from terrorists, kidnappers, armed robbers and even policemen, have reached an all time high, so many Nigerians have lost their lives and properties, and the remaining are scared, its hard to expect Nigerians not to travel when home no longer feels like home.
