Four sisters were killed on the spot in a car crash that happened in Benin. The youths nearby said they could have escaped the death if the gutter were not too wide. See details below!

Four sisters in family died on the roadside

A pregnant woman and three other ladies have lost their lives on Saturday in a car crash which happened at Uselu road, on the Ugbowo/Benin highway.

The pregnant woman and the three ladies, whom Naijauto learned were siblings, were said to be standing and waiting by the roadside for a car that will take them to the market when an oncoming BMW car skidded off its lane and rammed into the four women, killing them on the spot.

An eyewitness said that the four dead sisters were all going to the market in preparation for the wedding of one of them.

Osas said the police officers deposited the bodies of the four deceased sisters at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

He said,

"The accident happened around 6.15 am opposite Uselu Park. We woke up to see four female bodies on the road and two persons in the car, a man and a woman. I don’t know where they were coming from. One of the bodies was inside the gutter and two were on the road. The pregnant woman was lying lifeless on the road. I guess they were going to New Benin Market."

He also noted that the driver of the BMW car and his occupant were also taken to the hospital.

Why did the youths protest?

The ghastly accident angered the youths of Uselu who began to protest and blocked the roads. Reports say the police command in the area was sent to the scene to disperse them. They shot their guns into the air which hit five persons. One was hit on the chest, another on the shoulder while another youth was shot in the eye.

The Uselu youth spokesperson identified as Osas Ikpomwosa told local media that two of the youths who sustained injuries were taken away by the police. The protesting youths were said to have sworn to block the roads until the arrested youths are released.

A youth leader among the group, Evans Uselu, complained bitterly that the dead sisters wanted to run when they saw the car coming towards them but they were unable to cross over the gutter until the car came and knocked them down.

He said,

"We have been asking government to close the gutter but they refused. It is too wide. That is why we are protesting. The four women are of the same family."

The Public Relations Officer Edo Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the unfortunate incident said his men were at the scene to restore normalcy. May the departed rest in peace.
