Celine Dion has opened up about the death of her husband Rene Angelil on Good Morning Britain today, after he died of throat cancer in 2016.

The singer recalled her final moments with her beloved husband as she told him: ‘I got this.’

Celine also explained how her new album was the first English album she has released without him by her side.

She revealed: ‘It took a while to record the album. It was a process.

‘Losing a half of you, because we were partners, we were one. This is actually my first English album without him by my side, so that was emotional. At the same time something that was telling me that, “You know, it’s ok.”‘

Speaking of their love she added: ‘Unique. Even though he’s not physically here, he’s part of me. I see him every day through the eyes of my children. I told him just before he left, “It’s going to be alright, don’t worry about anything I got this I always trusted you, he trusted me. We love each other so much. No one deserves to suffer, you’ve done good kid.”

‘Being a single parent gives me even more of something powerful – they need me so much.’

Celine met Rene when she was just 12 and he was 38, after her brother sent the music producer and manager a demo of Celine singing. They began dating when she was 19 and he was 45.

They married in 1994 and had three sons together, and Rene was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1999 but made a full recovery after treatment.

The cancer returned and Rene had surgery in December 2013, before being given just ‘months’ to live in September 2015.

The couple had been married for 21 years at the time of his death, and Celine has often spoken about her continuing love for her late husband.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
